| Adorable white morning gown owned by Nancy L. Saputo. Nancy writes of the pelisse: "Early 1800s Morning Robe/Pelisse (Probably English). White muslin check-weave morning robe/pelisse. Decorated with double puffing of muslin and muslin ruffles. | Shown here is a detailed image of the sleeves that cover the hand to the knuckles, sometimes called "Mitt sleeves." I have seen similar sleeves in French fashion plates as early as c. 1799- 1800. These sleeves are also common in English plates of morning dress in 1812- 5. |
