Take out your graded copies of essay #1, #2, and #3. Look at my comments and the grades you have earned. Decide which essay you should rewrite. If an essay has already earned an A or A+, it is not a good essay to rewrite. (If you are in the rare and unique position of having earned all AÕs or A+Õs, please consult me about this assignment during my office hours.) If an essay has earned a grade of D, D-, or F, it may be too flawed to devote more time to revising. Consult me if you are unsure which essay to rewrite.
The next goal is to rewrite the essay. You can get help from the writing-center or from me if you want. Use the final comments on your original essay to revise.
Please staple together the new rewrite and the original graded essay. Please make sure the rewrite is at the front of the stapled packet.
In most cases, your grade should go up from the previous grade. If, however, you do not revise enough of the essay to meet the criteria for a higher grade, you will not earn the higher grade. If your revision shows poor judgment or adversely affects the quality of the paper, it is possible (although unlikely) that you can receive a grade lower than the original grade. See the grading information on the original essay sheet for more details. Note also that if you plagiarize, you will get a grade of zero. (The official grading standards of the Chaffey College English department will be used to grade your paper. Please see these at http://www.chaffey.edu/english/handbook/grade.htm on the Internet.)
