Notes from my reading diary, summer 1992: This novel actually had me momentarily confused as
to who the hero was. The heroine was quite nasty to the hero, and the hero was at first described in
very unflattering terms. Heroine has company that owns inn--tons of good suspects for the theft, but
heroine is really not suspicious enough of the real thief, so the villain is sort of given away. The
heroine also seems a bit shallow in her desire for the hero's house and support. An ok read, but not
much romantic tension despite the many kisses.

Notes from my reading diary, March/April 1992: Heroine has an evil relative who spreads a rumor
that she is mad. She escapes and is rescued by a gypsy-wagon-painting Lord. The hero, heroine, and a wounded brother go to a Scottish island. The plot involves bloodhound chases, kidnappings,
threatened beatings, threatened rapes, and heroic rescues by the hero.

Stuart, Anne. [Anne Kristine Stuart Ohlrogge; Ann Stuart]. Lord Satan's Bride. A
Candlelight Regency Special 649. NY: Dell, 1981.
Note: Anne Stuart is much more famous for her contemporary romances. Her mercenary/spy heroes and her tough, feisty heroines have made her modern romances hot items that are frequently reprinted. Her early regencies managed to push the conservative limits of the time and are still quite daring. Part of Stuart's appeal has been her ability to have a sweet romance in a fictional world full of sordid violence and horrible criminals. Recently her medieval romances have been very successful.
