Redingote, c. 1790-97

Los Angeles County Museum of Art. (M.57.24.9)
Description from An Elegant Art: Fashion and Fantasy in the Eighteenth Century. Los Angeles: Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1983. "Blue gray silk moire; long, close-fitting sleeves, large lapels, stand-up and cape collars; buttons down front to floor; linen-lined bodice; Directoire Style" (169).

You can see brown stains at the bottom of this coat, indicating it probably wasn't a very practical coat. It also doesn't look particularly warm.
