Women's Chemise, c. 1750-1800, Museum of London 56.73/3

Description from Halls, Zillah. Women's Costume: 1750-1800. London: London Museum, 1972. 66.

"white linen, the initials 'C H' embroidered in black silk cross-stitch at the base of the low neck which has a frill (not gathered) of fine linen. The sleeves, which end above the elbow, are gathered into a band; they would not have been visible under the dress, unlike the chemises of the early and middle years of the century whose frills were intended to show."
