Read texts of 1807, such as Martha Ballad's Diary, 1807;
Elizabeth Gunning, The Orphans of Snowdon: a Novel.
Sydney Owenson, Lady Morgan, Patriotic Sketches.
Mrs. Eliza Phelp Parsons, The Convict, or The Navy Lieutenant.
Anna Maria Porter, The Hungarian Brothers. This novel includes powerful depictions of realistic battle scenes, a trait of both Porter sisters' works. They received first-hand accounts of battles from generals and many distinguished war heroes in their home in London.
Coulter, Catherine. The
Heiress Bride. NY: Jove, 1996. [3rd in Coulter's Bride series]
This is an interesting blend of fairy tale, realism, and Gothic novel. The sexual
difficulties of the young couple make up a key aspect of the plot. Their problems
begin as rather interesting realism but soon become rather improbable.
Feather, Jane. Velvet. NY: Bantam Books, 1994.
Quinn, Julia. Everything and the Moon. NY: Avon, 1997.
Seger, Maura. The Lady and the Laird. Harlequin Historical 127. Toronto: Harlequin, 1992.
