Women's Garters, c. 1800-1830

Photographs provided by Joanne Haug who sells such antique clothing at Reflections of the Past. (You can contact Joanne at antiques@victoriana.com). These garters sold for $400. My thanks to Joanne for permission to reproduce these images!

The image to the right above is from a French fashion plate of 1790 showing a similar (though it appears wider) embroidered garter. For more fashion plates of shoes and stockings, see The Regency Footwear Page
Ivory satin and silk garters to tie up Milady's stockings! The embroidered part of the garter is ten inches by 1 inch. Each garter has a different saying embroidered in French upon it. The embroidery is done on satin while the ties are of ivory silk.
